Family time

Today is my father-in-laws 69th birthday. So yesterday my husband and I took him out to dinner to celebrate. This is kind of a difficult birthday for him as it’s the first birthday he has spent by himself without his wife in over 47 years. But his spirits seem to be up and he seemed to really enjoy this little outing with his grandkids. The kids got a real kick out of going out to dinner with grampie and they both insisted on sitting beside him at the restaurant. This made him quite happy. Today he will spend the day with his daughter and other grandkids so I think that he will end up having a pretty good day in spite of his recent loss.

It must be tough for him to be without his wife after so many years. My father-in-law tends to get very down in the dumps around the holidays and during the winter. We try and spend as much time with him as we can, it makes him as well as the grandkids happier to be together.
