She’s getting a hair cut!

My daughter who is almost 10 is going to get her hair cut. Now this probably doesn’t seem like a huge deal to you all. But it is and I’m going to explain why.
She has never had a hair cut in almost 10 years. She has had her bangs trimmed and the ends evened out, but that’s it. So she has tons and tons of hair. Her hair is now down past her “butt”. For the past three years she has expressed an interest in getting her hair cut and donating this hair to the cancer society for wigs.
Almost three years ago Kara’s grandmother was diagnosed with cancer and had to go through the chemo treatments. Needless to say she lost most of her hair. So that’s when Kara decided she wanted to get her hair cut for cancer. She wanted to donate a wig to her grandmother. Since that time her grandmother has passed away so Kara now wants to donate her hair to a child in need of a wig.
I couldn’t be more proud of her. As soon as our local saloon can set it up with the cancer society, Kara will be getting her hair cut.

Wow, that’s pretty awesome. My dad died of leukemia 9 years ago and my mom was diagnosed with lymphoma over Christmas. I’ve been trying to talk her into taking her hair and donating it before she loses it to the chemo.
Anyways, it’s good to hear that there are decent little kids out there who are concerned about more then just themselves!
congrats to Kara..and to her proud Mom…:))
That is terrific of her to do. What a great kid!
I wonder if Kim does not really have a “butt”? LOL
Good for her to want to help for that! Very honorable and giving! I know what you mean - those not quite to that extent - as I only had my hair trimmed by my grandma when I was young, never cut
WOW! That’s so awesome! My daughter has never had her hair cut either and she’s 12. I trim the ends and she grew out her bangs. She wants to get the front tapered before she starts junior high in the fall, that a huge step. I’ve tried to get her to do Locks of Love, but she’s just not ready.
I really admire your daughter, that’s very brave of her. I’m sure you’re very proud, as you should be!
WOW! That’s just great that she wants to do something like this. Most 10-year olds aren’t thinking of people beyond their immediate sphere of influence. You’ve done a great job bringing up a child who is so aware of the world and it’s needs.

Kim, I have so many things to say! First off, you’ve made tears spring to my eyes. One, because I instantly though of last year went I went home for a visit and my ten year old niece who has SO MUCH HAIR had gotten a bang cut and she looked too adult for me! makes me feel old. Second, because I so adore that your daughter even has the heart to do such a thing. I admire her greatly. It’s hair, it will grow back. But she is going to do something for the self esteem for some child that is having such a hard time..Sigh. Sorry for the mini blog. I have to go wipe my nose.

I think that would be a big deal for her since her hair is very long.
