If I'm in your shoes, I'll take those furnitures and keep them all in a room first, then proceed to sell them off at the local junk shop or on ebay. But don't let your father-in-law know you sold them off : )

I know how these things can fill up a house. I still live with my folks (hey I am only 22) in a small terrace house and we use every single inch of space, and when people start giving you furniture you wonder where it will go.

Mind you eBay is your friend, or the local salvation shop etc.

I know how furniture can overtake a house. When I had to clear out my dad's house, I would have liked to have kept more of his stuff but just couldn't possibly fit in any more furniture. I was able to sell quite a bit on eBay . . . just something you may want to consider. People were willing to come and pick it up!

Looks like the consignment shop is going to be filled up or the local goodwill. It is hard to get rid of things given to you, but it is hard to object if you slowly give away those things you don't need to charity. Not all at once, but in pieces.
