Are you smarter than a fifth grader?
Sep 27th, 2008 by Kim
I just love that show. Don’t you?? Well with a fifth grader living at home I tend to pay a little closer attention to some of the things that she is learning and what she is expected to learn. And let me tell you. I’m kind of afraid that if I was in fifth grade I may end up failing the year. It’s amazing what type of information they are expected to learn and remember.
I seen one of her spelling tests last night and was extremely surprised to see that one of her words was Apidexin. I’m not in fifth grade and haven’t been for quite a few years and I don’t know if I could have spelled that word right off the top of my head. After seeing some of her work, I actually kind of glad that I’m not in school any more and now I really don’t care if I’m smarter than a fifth grader. I’ll just proudly display my high school diploma and just be happy that I passed fifth grade.
The questions on that show are hard!!!
BTW, I’m participating in Alpha Heroes’ bloghopping challenge … I have to visit and comment on ten new blogs (to me) and then talk about them on my blog. You’re one of my ten!
You know it is funny you mention this, I have been watching “Are you smarter than a fifth grader” on Channel 10 here in Australia at the moment. I have to say I agree, some of the stuff that comes out in the questions that they are expected to know (and that the fifth graders can actually answer) is really wicked.
Ahh thank goodness school is over *breaths a sigh of relief*.

Hi,
You’re 100% correct. Current 5th grade student require more brain than ours during that time.
My daughter, who is in 5th Grade asked me a question- Can you use the word “because” without comma and full stop three times in a sentence? I blinked. She answered- “No sentence begins with because because because is a conjunction”.
@Jack:
Owwwie, I think I just felt my head explode, that is one eeebil sentence.

I only saw that show a couple times but was also surprised at how difficult some of the questions were. I teach 5th grade boys in Sunday School and they are very smart. It does seem that they have to learn more than I did at that age.
