He crashed!

Well today was the second skate of the year for my son’s class. So first thing this morning (after stopping at my favorite coffee shop) I headed out to the rink to meet the bus. After I helped my son get his skates on I sat on the bleachers (drinking my x-large coffee) and watched him skate. Well it was a good thing I was paying attention. Toward the end of the skate I seen him and another boy crash into one another and my son went down hard. They banged heads and then he hit the ice hard with one knee. So of course I went flying onto the ice (in sneakers) and ran to him while he was down. He was crying and said his head hurt and his knee. Between the teacher, myself and another parent we got him off the ice, took of his skates and checked for injuries.
He has a major headache, but no bump. So that’s good. He asked me to take him home. So we came home. He seems OK but it’s better to be safe than sorry. I’ll continue to monitor him, but I think he’s going to be fine. Oh well, these things happen. Especially when he’s so little and skating with kids a lot bigger than him. All I can say is thank god for his helmet. That was probably the only thing that saved his head from a serious injury.

Your son sounds like he’s pretty tough. Banging heads really hurts, OUCH! That is a good thing he had a helmet on. I didn’t even know people wear helmets when they ice skate. I thought they only did for skate boarding or roller blading.
Ouchie! Poor kid. I am glad he is ok.
Oh wow! That would have been scary to see! Good thing you were there for him and yes, it’s very good that he had a helmet on. Hopefully he’ll still want to skate after this.
