Sad story with a happy ending
Dec 18th, 2008 by Kim
Yesterday we had our first major snowfall. So major in fact that they closed the schools early. The kids were extremely happy about this (me not so much….still babysitting) and couldn’t wait until they got out into the snow. My son was especially happy about this turn of events as it meant that he would be able to go out to shovel.
Well after they had their dinner my young son (who’s 8)looked out the window and seen the neighbors boy shoveling our driveway. He was so upset. He almost had tears in his eyes. He came to me and mentioned that he was the one that was supposed to shovel. I told him not to worry about it and that we would get it all straighted out when his father got home.
When his father got home I told him about the conversation that I had with our son. He then told him to put his stuff on and go out and shovel the deck. Well…you couldn’t wipe the smile of the kid’s face. He was out for about a half an hour and did as good of a job as a teenager would.
So when he came in from his shoveling duties, he was rewarded with a candy cane. Cheap labour (he,he) So it all worked out for the better. My little guy was happy, the neighbor’s boy was happy (he got paid), and my husband was happy that he didn’t have to do any shoveling.
I hope he still likes to shovel after he turns 13. LOL
That’s wonderful that your son WANTS to help out by shoveling. I’d say encourage him!
Hi Kim,
I wish you Yuletide Joy and A Blessed New Year together with your family.
Happy Holidays!
