A little girl with a big heart
Jan 6th, 2009 by Kim
I would like to take this time to tell you all about my special little girl who has a big heart. My daughter is only ten, but she has got to be the sweetest and kindest little girl I know. And..now I’m going to tell you all why.
In her ten little years of life, she has only had one hair cut. Up until this weekend, this kid’s hair was down past her backside. Yes, she has had her bangs cut and the back of her hair trimmed, but no real haircut to speak of. Well last summer she wanted to get her hair cut but would only do it if she could donate her hair to kids who have cancer. Well I couldn’t find a hair dresser who participated in this type of program. So we got four inches cut off her hair and went on our way.
Well this past weekend we decided that she needed her bangs cut once again. So on Saturday my husband took her to the beauty saloon (I had to work). When they arrived and the hairstylist asked him how much to cut off my daughter piped up that she wanted it cut short. Then she asked if she could donate her hair for kid’s that have cancer and need a wig and they said yes they do participate in this program. She was extremely pleased by this news and proceeded to get twelve inches cut off her hair. She had enough hair for TWO wigs!
I must say that I was in complete shock when I got home from work. But it’s something she has wanted to do for about three years now and she was extremely proud of herself. And you know what?? Her haircut looks really good and she is happy with what she did. So…this is why I have got the best little girl on this planet!
That is wonderful! She does have a big heart. (Beauty Saloon??? that cracked me up. LOL)
That certainly speaks volumes about you too! What a great mom you must be to have raised such a caring, practical and compassionate daughter. Kudos to you both, and to your husband too for letting her go through with that!
WOW! You are definitely doing something right as her parent! You certainly do have a very special little girl.
Your daughter reminds me of my granddaughter –she’s a lot like that too. It’s so great hearing about kids who do such positive things for their communities rather than be gang members or do bad stuff.
Kudos for you for helping her be this kind of person!

That shows true kindness and a beautiful soul! What a darling!
Thanks for sharing the story of your daughter’s thoughtful haircut. It is great to hear about kids doing something so compassionate for other children, and you have every reason to be the proudest mom on the planet. Congratulations for instilling a great set of values.
All the best for a happy, healthy 2009 to you and your family.
