Possible transcription career
Jan 20th, 2009 by Kim
As you all know, part of the way that we supplement my husband’s income as well as my own is through doing a little bit of computer work from home. For the past couple of years now I have been doing some paid blogging as well as some paid article writing. Well I thought I may like to branch out into something different. So for the past couple of weeks I have been doing a lot of research into getting into doing general transcription work from home.
This type of work appeals to me quite a bit as not only do you have the flexibility of working from home (you don’t need to scour the Wall St jobs classifieds or any other classifieds for that matter) and you can make pretty good cash doing it as well. There is a minimal investment required as you really would need to purchase a foot pedal as well as some sturdy and reliable headphones, but that can all come in time.
So after a lot of research I have decided to go for this. I have already taken some steps in getting this career up and running. Not much yet, but baby steps…right?? I will be sure to keep you all posted on my progress in this area. And if your a transcriptionist and have any advice or guidance you would like to throw my way, I would certainly be happy to hear from you.
Hope this transcription bit works out for you although I don’t know when you’d find the time between mothering, wifing, working at the restaurant, blogging and do you still babysit the boss’s daughter? You must be SUPER WOMAN!
nope not superwoman. Just trying to cover my basis. LOL Boss’s daughter, nope don’t babysit any more. My job at the restaurant is probably going to end in June as my husband’s hours are going to drastically change then and blogging…well I may cut back on that a bit if this other thing proves to be more lucrative.
Wife and mother….yup. Will still keep that. LOL
Hey Kim,
I am stopping by from Tammy’s Meet My Friend. I started the medical transcription training but have not finished it yet. I have got to get started back! Good luck to you!
I am off to read some more of your blog…
I’m also very interested in the transcriptionist business, but have found no jobs as of yet. Would you mind sharing where you found a job? I’d just love to check it out and apply too!
That sounds exciting, especially with many paid posting opportunities drying up lately. Good luck!
Thanks for all your support guys!
@ Rebecca, I haven’t found anything yet. Still just practicing until I feel confident enough to start applying for contracts. But I’ll definitely let you know when this happens.
dropping by!
I actually just got layed off from that as I was doing transcription on a part-time basis at home but then realized I was just wasting that 300.00/mo I was getting for all the stress it was putting on me after I relooked at all my financials. I finally got enough raises to equal that so I really don’t need it anymore, just gotta watch my pennies more carefully without that added income.
