Early spring cleaning

Last week I spent a bit of time clearing out my craft room. I got rid of a lot of stuff and now can actually work in that room. So I have decided to do the same thing with my two kid’s bedrooms. Their rooms are so small and they have so much stuff that you really can’t tell if they cleaned it or not. So today the first of the rooms is going to get a serious makeover. I have decided to tackle my son’s room first as he has less stuff than my daughter so it shouldn’t take as long to complete his room. He has a lot of old broken model kits that I know he has no intention of finishing so those items will be tossed out first. Then… I’ll dive under his bed and computer stand to see what other treasures I might find. So if you don’t see me around for a couple of days just assume I got swallowed up in his clutter and I’ll find my way back eventually.

School report cards

Earlier this week both kids brought home their first report cards. I’ve got to tell you all that I was highly impressed with the results that I saw. My daughter who is in grade 8 brought home a straight A report card with one A+ and my son who is in grade 6 brought home mostly B’s and two A’s. He’s not as keen on school as my daughter is so I was highly surprised to see this kid is actually doing quite well in school. So because of this great effort on both of their parts we are going to take them out for a special supper just to show how proud we are of them. Hopefully at the end of this term I will see similar results.

Another long weekend coming up

I swear the children spend more time out of school than they do in school. This weekend is another long weekend for the children. On Friday they have no school as it is Rememberance day here in Canada. Then of course they will be home for Saturday and Sunday. Will I live through it?? I guess we’ll see. So I have no real big plans for the weekend as when I have the kids home for an extended period of time, I’m usually not able to get much done. I do plan on looking up coupons codes on the Internet to see I can save some money on my upcoming Christmas shopping but other than that, I just plan on trying to get through the weekend. Oh well, they’ll certainly like having this extra time at home.

Babysitting success

Last night for the first time ever my husband and I decided to try to see if our daughter and son could be trusted and left home alone. She’s 13 and he’s 11 so really there is no reason they shouldn’t be except that they fight a lot. But we thought we’d give it a go. And… I’m happy to report that all went well. We didn’t leave them home alone very long mind you, but it was still a good test. So we are going to do this again very soon and see just how they continue to make out. And then maybe I’ll be able to leave them home from now on when I go to work.

Not a good start to the new school year!

Well yesterday both kids came home from school with some stories to tell me. Apparently both of them are being picked on at the bus stop and this is really pi**ing me off! I already went through this crap with my daughter a couple of years ago and now apparently it’s happening to both kids this year. My son’s situation is a little more serious than my daughter’s as he had a kid decide to kick him in an area no boy should be kicked in. So later today I have a meeting with the school principal to get this mess straightened out. When I’m there I will also discuss the situation with my daughter and hopefully get both of the kid’s problems straightened out. Man… I hate living here and we really, really need to think about moving.

Back to school cleaning

You parents are going to know exactly what I’m talking about here. I’m talking about the major amount of work that it takes to get your kids ready to go back to school. Not only do you have to purchase tons and tons of school supplies, but if your kids are anything like my own, you are also purchasing tons and tons of school clothes as well. A very costly venture if I do say so.

So in preparation of buying all these school clothes I have been doing a little cleaning in the kids rooms to see exactly what kind of clothes they will need. Well while I was in their rooms I discovered that neither room is as clean as I would like it to be so I’ve been doing some pretty heavy duty cleaning as well. So of course I’ve been using a ton of Febreze , Mr. Clean and Swiffer products. Just the other day I was sent a care package in the mail from Febreze and let me tell you all, that it couldn’t have come at a better time.

They sent me air fresheners, candles, set and refresh, and some dawn dish detergent just in case I decide to do my dishes while I’m doing all this extra cleaning (ha, ha who has time?). So I tested out the new fragrances and let me tell you folks, Febreze outdid themselves once again. So… not only do I have the kids rooms cleaned out of old clothes and know exactly what I have to buy, but thanks to Frebreze and Mr. Clean their rooms smell a whole lot nicer as well.

What a long summer! I’ve had both kids home from school for almost two months and let me tell you folks that it was probably the longest two months of my life. But… the summer vacation is almost over and there is less than three weeks of vacation to go. Then these children will be off to school every morning and I will once again get a little quite time for myself. I have so many plans for when they go back to school that it’s actually kind of scary. I’m going to find and sort through all my Cell phone accessories and get everything in order. Then I’m going to clean out my office/craft room and try to start up my home crafting business once again. But until then I still have two children underfoot and fighting so until then I’m just going to try to get through the next two and a half weeks while they’re still hat home.

Six more weeks to go

What a long summer this has been! The kids have been home from school for a month now but it sure feels a lot longer than that! And… the bad part is that they still have six more weeks to go before school is in session. Honestly I don’t know if I’m up for another six weeks of fighting. I know they need this break from school, but it’s days like today that make me wonder if I’m going to make it another six weeks. Oh well, it is what it is and I’ll just have to get used to it, or go a little nuts. I’ll let you know how I make out with all this.

Getting excited for middle school

Normally it’s my daughter who is bugging me about going back to school so you can imagine my surprise when I noticed my son on the middle school website last night. He was checking out the different sports programs that they offer and got quite excited when he discovered that they offer an archery club using pse compound bows. I think this actually might be a school year where this child won’t mind going to school. They still have a couple of months of vacation, but to see him so excited about going to school really does make me smile.

The kids are helping out quite a bit

For my two kids who are generally pretty lazy, they have doing quite a bit of helping out today. My daughter did all my dishes and has folded quite a bit of my laundry. My son volunteered to clean his room and actually found some 9v batteries that we’d been missing. I think they fell bad for me because they know I’m in quite a bit of pain. I don’t really care what the reason is for all their help, I’m just grateful that they’re giving it to me.
