School report cards

Earlier this week both kids brought home their first report cards. I’ve got to tell you all that I was highly impressed with the results that I saw. My daughter who is in grade 8 brought home a straight A report card with one A+ and my son who is in grade 6 brought home mostly B’s and two A’s. He’s not as keen on school as my daughter is so I was highly surprised to see this kid is actually doing quite well in school. So because of this great effort on both of their parts we are going to take them out for a special supper just to show how proud we are of them. Hopefully at the end of this term I will see similar results.

Another long weekend coming up

I swear the children spend more time out of school than they do in school. This weekend is another long weekend for the children. On Friday they have no school as it is Rememberance day here in Canada. Then of course they will be home for Saturday and Sunday. Will I live through it?? I guess we’ll see. So I have no real big plans for the weekend as when I have the kids home for an extended period of time, I’m usually not able to get much done. I do plan on looking up coupons codes on the Internet to see I can save some money on my upcoming Christmas shopping but other than that, I just plan on trying to get through the weekend. Oh well, they’ll certainly like having this extra time at home.

Not a good start to the new school year!

Well yesterday both kids came home from school with some stories to tell me. Apparently both of them are being picked on at the bus stop and this is really pi**ing me off! I already went through this crap with my daughter a couple of years ago and now apparently it’s happening to both kids this year. My son’s situation is a little more serious than my daughter’s as he had a kid decide to kick him in an area no boy should be kicked in. So later today I have a meeting with the school principal to get this mess straightened out. When I’m there I will also discuss the situation with my daughter and hopefully get both of the kid’s problems straightened out. Man… I hate living here and we really, really need to think about moving.

Back to school cleaning

You parents are going to know exactly what I’m talking about here. I’m talking about the major amount of work that it takes to get your kids ready to go back to school. Not only do you have to purchase tons and tons of school supplies, but if your kids are anything like my own, you are also purchasing tons and tons of school clothes as well. A very costly venture if I do say so.

So in preparation of buying all these school clothes I have been doing a little cleaning in the kids rooms to see exactly what kind of clothes they will need. Well while I was in their rooms I discovered that neither room is as clean as I would like it to be so I’ve been doing some pretty heavy duty cleaning as well. So of course I’ve been using a ton of Febreze , Mr. Clean and Swiffer products. Just the other day I was sent a care package in the mail from Febreze and let me tell you all, that it couldn’t have come at a better time.

They sent me air fresheners, candles, set and refresh, and some dawn dish detergent just in case I decide to do my dishes while I’m doing all this extra cleaning (ha, ha who has time?). So I tested out the new fragrances and let me tell you folks, Febreze outdid themselves once again. So… not only do I have the kids rooms cleaned out of old clothes and know exactly what I have to buy, but thanks to Frebreze and Mr. Clean their rooms smell a whole lot nicer as well.

Getting excited for middle school

Normally it’s my daughter who is bugging me about going back to school so you can imagine my surprise when I noticed my son on the middle school website last night. He was checking out the different sports programs that they offer and got quite excited when he discovered that they offer an archery club using pse compound bows. I think this actually might be a school year where this child won’t mind going to school. They still have a couple of months of vacation, but to see him so excited about going to school really does make me smile.

Disappointing project results

My daughter is in grade 7 and thinks she’s a perfectionist. Well she’s not really but she really does try in her projects and in school. Well over the past couple of weeks she has received a couple of disappointing project results. One of her projects required using scopes and she did work really hard on the project, but she did cut a lot of corner and her teacher picked up on it. And her grade reflected this. Then she had another one due yesterday that she didn’t do as well as she had hoped either. But… she still gets good marks so I told her not to worry about it. But she does. So she plans on doing better on tests to bring these marks up. The kid is determined if nothing else.

My little man is growing up!

My *baby* is 10 and is in grade 5. Well yesterday I discovered that this little guy is in fact growing up. He brought home a paper yesterday to enroll him in to junior high school for next year. That’s right my *baby* will be in middle school next year. Where has the time gone? Sometimes I forget that he is actually the age he is because he’s so small. But seeing that paper yesterday made me kind of sit up and take notice. Oh well, it was bound to happen but that doesn’t mean I’ve got to like it.

Glee club

My daughter is in grade 7 and is having the time of her life. Right now she is in the school art club, works in the library two days a week and helps out with recycling one day a week. Well… now she wants to join the Glee club. I personally think she is spreading herself a little thin. But as long as she keeps her marks up, I don’t say a whole lot about her activities. So today after school will be her first Glee club practice. I guess we will just have to see how this is going to fit into her schedule and take it from there.

Wonderful school pictures

I have to say that this is probably the first year ever that I am highly impressed with both of the kids school pictures. My daughter had hers taken last week and my son’s was taken yesterday. We already got the proofs back and were extremely impressed with the results. I guess it really did pay off when we invested in the acne rosacea treatment for my daughter this year. Their pictures turned out so great that we ordered extra sheets. Now just to wait until they come in and hand them out to family and friends.

School picture day

Today is the day that my son’s school takes their school pictures. This kid is in grade 5 but by the way he was dressed, you would have sworn that he was only in grade 2. I caught him as he was going out the door and made him change his clothes. He was not impressed with me. But… since it’s his final year of elementary school I really, really want to get a good picture out of this kid. Because they are digital I will get to see the proofs tonight. Hopefully he smiles in these pictures and I end up getting an awesome picture for his final year of elementary school.
